If you’re employed or you receive a pension, you will probably soon be receiving one or more new PAYE Coding Notices for the 2012/13 tax year, as these are being issued by HMRC between January and March.
Although the temptation might be to just “file” it away, that could cause problems later because, if it contains inaccurate details, this could lead to larger than necessary under or over-payments of tax for the year, and the issue by HMRC of an unwelcome assessment after the end of the tax year if you do not complete an annual Tax Return.
HMRC no longer send accountants copies of their clients’ PAYE Coding Notices, so if you have any doubts about the accuracy of the code that you have been issued with, please just get in touch with your usual contact at Ensors, or Belinda Gledhill
