Celebrating one year in Norwich

With over 130 years in practice and established offices across Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, Ensors Chartered Accountants embarked on the next step in their growth journey with a geographical expansion into Norfolk in Spring 2024. Now one year on, Corporate Services Director Jamie Waller, reflects on Ensors’ first year in Norwich.

I joined Ensors at an exciting stage in the firm’s development, and I am proud to have led its expansion into Norwich. As a city native, I knew the vibrant and thriving business community presented a number of exciting opportunities, and since the opening of our office doors last March, I am delighted with what we have achieved in such a short period of time.

Over the last twelve months, we have built a fantastic team at our home in the city’s professional services quarter of Whitefriars, who support new and existing clients across the county through our diverse service offering. We also welcomed our first apprenticeship intake of trainee accountants in September along with Ensors’ first dedicated employment tax specialist.

We have continued to build and expand on our established network of professional relationships in the county. We have hosted over 150 attendees at our two professional drinks events, and already invited the business community to two insightful breakfast events at Norwich City Football Club and The Great Hospital where our experts provided an in-depth breakdown of the changes from the Autumn Budget.

In addition to our own events, we have championed the local community through the EDP Business awards where we were honoured to judge and sponsor the Large Business of the Year category as well as sponsoring Hotel of the Year at the recent Suffolk and Norfolk Tourism Awards. We also sponsored a Business Leaders Lunch, a Norfolk Director Magazine event and enjoyed exhibiting at the Royal Norfolk Show for the first time. With a busy calendar of events in 2025, I look forward to getting stuck in and exploring further opportunities to reciprocate the warm welcome we have received.

Ensors understands the importance of giving back to the city and its people. As an office, we have regularly supported charitable events run by local organisations. A colleague and I completed the Norfolk Coastal Walk-in aid of The Feed and enjoyed competing in the local city treasure hunt. We also gained a mascot in the form a giant rubber duck, named after our founder Isaac Ensor, who was our entry into BREAK’s Grand Norwich Duck Race. We recently continued our support of BREAK with a team volunteering day at one of their residential homes to get the garden summer-ready for its residents to enjoy.

We are proud to support the local sporting community through our sponsorships at both Sprowston Cricket Club and Wymondham Rugby Club, and members of our team have enjoyed cheering them on throughout the season and sampling the hospitality.

We’ve had a packed first year in Norwich and have no plans to slow down. I look forward to seeing what the next twelve months bring as we settle into 2025.
