Members of the Ensors Bury office took part in a bike ride on Saturday 30 August, being the latest event in the office’s fundraising for the Towergate Accumulator Challenge in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care.
After a review of the route and a safety briefing, the team consisting of Robert Hatch, Henry Wood and George Ryding set off shortly after 9am for a bike ride around the Lark Valley with Robert Hatch setting an enthusiastic early pace.
Turning left through Fornham All Saints village, they headed out at a more moderate speed uphill towards Culford passing Fornham Park. Arriving at the Anglo Saxon village, they promptly crossed the Mildenhall Road at Lackford and took the road to Cavenham, part of the Icknield Way.
The Black Ditches were found towards Cavenham and an uphill section followed to Risby where they enjoyed freshly ground and brewed coffee at Lizzy’s Café, part of the Risby Barn complex. The owner, Richard, reported they had entertained 100 cyclists over the Bank Holiday from the Mildenhall cycle rally.
From there it was downhill all the way back to the office, a round trip of approximately 14 miles.
The bike ride raised £30 for the charity and even more money was raised later on in the week when there was a ‘Bake off’ in the office. Angela Offley, Claire Goddard and Helen Aitchison were ‘star’ bakers and creatively came up with a theme to celebrate Ensors 125 anniversary. Each baked a part of the 125 themed cake which was then auctioned off. Several other members of staff contributed by baking cakes for sale on the day and all together £186 was raised.
The Towergate Accumulator challenge involves companies being given £50 to raise as much money as possible in three months through a range of different and interesting activities.
