Henry Wood, Tax Manager at Ensors Bury office has just returned safely from his cycling trip to the Pyrenees, being only one of 8,500 competitors to finish within the time limit.
The Etape du Tour provides an opportunity for amateur riders to complete in one of the mountain stages of the Tour de France with closed roads, full support and back up. On Sunday 20th July 2014, 10,000 riders started out from Pau to ride to the ski resort of Hautacam, 95 miles away, via the Col de Tourmalet taking in over 12,600 feet of climbing.
“It began to rain at about the half way stage, adding to the difficulties of the climb. Wet roads and wind chill made the descent interesting! Fantastic support from my family, and knowing I was fund raising for St Nicholas Hospice somehow got the legs working again for the final ascent. It was a tough day’s cycle ride and a hugely enjoyable adventure. Great respect to the professionals racing this as stage 18 of the Tour” said Henry.
Henry was able to raised a wonderful £300 for St Nicholas Hospice who provides practical, medical and spiritual support to local people and their families living with an illness that is life threatening.
